The Coffee Park
The Economy of the Tree

Our tree grew from the seed of an idea.  The name came from our first meeting, the floor plan literally
was born in a dream.  The coffee was the finest organic coffee from Nicaragua grown on a family farm
owned and operated by the descendants of the original workers who founded the farm, fully sustainable
and community centered.  It was a perfect fit for our idea: a community centered, family friendly coffee
shop where people can gather and kids can play and learn.
We thought we were geniuses and
hoped we were set for our future as entrepreneurs and providers for our children.
The economy and fate don’t always play along
.
After celebrating an enormous success in our early months we were shocked and scared when seasons
changed and storms followed.  Nothing’s better than a free park, so we partnered early on as a supporter
of our community and East Cobb Park.  During the summer many days were slow as people enjoyed all
that our surroundings afford us.  As the schedules settled and the school year approached,
the world's economy shifted and the lives of thousands were transformed forever.
More recently more factors have affected greater numbers of people, and our lives have come more into
perspective.  The Coffee Park as we intended did not work.  Maybe we were disillusioned early on by
success, maybe our honest inexperience with business didn’t know how to cope with the changing
economy, maybe we just didn’t do something right, but whatever it was, it happened.
Now our lives have changed forever.
In the past six months we have done everything we can
think of
to turn things around (including reality TV).

Our realization finally came when Denver told us that he wanted to give all the extra toys to kids that don’t
have any because he knows that there were earthquakes that ruined lives.  He’s five.  He gets it.
Why didn’t we?
Facing the potential loss of everything, we were able to
shift our mindset and realize that we can still make a positive impact on the community.

We have seen the vision of the tree take root in a community, and experienced the community rally
behind us.
We were overcome by the support and want to be able to give back by turning
The Coffee Park into a non profit coffee house and arts center for the community.
